Obvious Poll needed

Cookie's statement of "I have yet to speak to someone who thinks they are good for the future of the class" begs to be addressed in some sort of poll. So, the question is thrown out to the readers (certainly not scientific, but intriguing none the less.) Only two choices:

(1) I think wings are good for the future of the class.
(2) I think wings are not good for the future of the class.

Cast your vote!

All members of IMCA will get to make this decision in 2011 if enough of them decide a ban is needed to initiate a vote.
Even if no decision is made to ban wings, Adam is collecting thoughts on what needs to be changed in our rules to make measurement method clear cut and equitable with existing soft rigs. We will inevitably get to vote on such rule changes next year.
The current excitement, paranoia, axiety and xenophibia is not alot different to what Brett Burville created in Perth around 2000 with his first foiler. It raced in the World Championship, did not win and the rules were subsequently re interpretted to yield the remarkable foiling boats we have today.
I am sure there was similar emotions when Andrew Patterson appeared with the first skinny axeman some 10? years earlier.
The moth class is remarkably resiliant to change, thats why its still the most advanced racing class in the world after 80 years.
Its not time now to stall that progress.

I forgot to mention cost.
The class is bigger than it has ever been. But a new Mach2 in Aust is very close to double the price a World Campionship standard Hungry Tiger was 10 years ago. Yet they are selling like hot cakes, 150 M2s in 2 years against less than 30 HT produced over 8 years.

OK, I'll quantify myself a bit here. Everyone I have spoken to thinks they are 'cool'. Most of those people think that they will be too much of a bastard to live with that they wouldn't want one... If it is apparent that you need one in order to race that is a whole heap of bad. At the moment the boats are tweaky yet accessible. Tweaky and inaccessible means you end up with half a dozen boats a'la the C's...

Over simplified but great idea.

Hi Joe,

Can you add a vote for "Makes no difference either way"?

Cheers,

Completely in favor of hard wing sails- exciting developments like this are why I got into the class!!

This could be very cool for the class. There's no way we should outlaw them now.

Whether they are eventually banned or not, at present they are great for the class. C Class tried T foils and they didn't work, nothing to say wings that work on C Class will work on Moths. Unless they are significantly faster, they won't catch on because likely they'll be harder to live with than a soft sail. At least some of the best are developing them so we should get to a decision point fairly quickly.

I'm all for wings in the class. Anything goes as far as I'm concerned. I love the way the class is heading.
